You enter the restricted valley by crossing a small checkpoint and then follow a trail that winds through dense pine forests, suspension bridges, cascading waterfalls, and narrow gorges. The roaring Soti Khola river accompanies you along most of the trail.

As you climb higher, the terrain becomes more dramatic narrow cliffs, stone-built shelters, and high alpine landscapes slowly emerge. You pass Dharmasala, a small rest point for trekkers and herders. The final climb to Meta is steep but rewarding, offering panoramic views of Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II.

Today’s trek takes you deeper into the forgotten highlands of the Nar Phu region. The trail passes through several small settlements such as Kyang and Chyakhu, where ancient ruins and abandoned fortresses give a glimpse into the valley’s historical significance. The landscapes are vast, barren, and incredibly unique rocky terrain, towering cliffs, and wide mountain plateaus define this section.

As you approach Phu Village, one of the most culturally rich settlements in Nepal, you’ll see fluttering prayer flags, yak pastures, ancient chortens, and stone-built houses perched on a rugged hillside. Phu is home to the historic Tashi Lhakhang Monastery, which adds deep spiritual significance to the trek.

Accommodation is basic but atmospheric, offering a chance to interact with the local Phu residents who still follow ancient Tibetan traditions. Overnight at a teahouse.

This day is dedicated to acclimatization and cultural exploration. At high altitudes, acclimatizing is crucial for avoiding altitude sickness, and Phu is the perfect place to spend extra time. You can explore the beautifully preserved Tibetan village, visit monasteries, interact with the warm-hearted locals, and observe daily life from weaving and farming to prayer ceremonies.

A short hike to nearby viewpoints offers excellent views of Himlung Himal and surrounding landscapes. Spending time walking at a slow pace helps condition your body for the upcoming high pass. Overnight at the same teahouse.

After leaving Phu, the trail descends through rocky terrain before gradually climbing toward Nar Village. The route is scenic, with views of peaks, canyons, and ancient bridges. Nar feels more lively than Phu, with a larger population and more agricultural activity. The village is beautifully preserved and culturally rich, with monasteries, traditional homes, and local gatherings.

Nar offers better accommodation options, warm hospitality, and an opportunity to prepare mentally for the challenging high pass the next day. Overnight at a teahouse.

The descent to Ngawal is steep but scenic, passing through yak pastures and alpine valleys. Ngawal, part of the Annapurna Circuit, offers more comfortable accommodations and amenities. Overnight at a teahouse.

Your descent continues today toward the main Annapurna Circuit route. The trail from Ngawal winds down through a beautiful mix of pine forests, chortens, and terraced fields. Compared to the rugged remoteness of Nar and Phu, this part of the journey feels more lively, with frequent teahouses, prayer walls, and trekkers on the busy Annapurna route.

You will gradually descend toward Braga and Manang Valley, known for its dramatic landscapes, icy rivers, and sweeping Himalayan views. You can stop for tea in Braga Monastery, one of the oldest in the region. The trail then descends through forests and village clusters until you reach Pisang or continue further to Chame, depending on your pace and preference.

Both destinations offer good-quality teahouses, hot showers, delicious meals, and better amenities compared to Nar and Phu. After several days in remote high-altitude terrain, today feels relaxing, refreshing, and energizing. Overnight at a teahouse in Pisang or Chame.

Today marks the end of your Nar Phu Valley adventure. After breakfast, you board a private jeep or local vehicle for the long drive back to Kathmandu. The journey begins with rough mountain roads, passing through waterfalls, rocky cliffs, and deep pine forests. You continue descending alongside the Marsyangdi River, passing towns like Dharapani, Jagat, and Besisahar.

As the altitude drops, the air becomes warmer, and you slowly transition from high mountains to low hills and fertile valleys. Once you reach Besisahar, the road becomes smoother, making the ride more comfortable and scenic.

Upon arriving in Kathmandu, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. This is the perfect time to enjoy a well-deserved rest, explore Thamel, or celebrate your successful completion of the Nar Phu Valley Trek.
